Maria-José Azar-Baud
Maria José AZAR-BAUD is a lecturer at the University of Paris-Saclay, lecturer in several foreign and French universities, including Paris1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (Master Competition, Distribution, Consumption) and Panthéon-Assas (LLM European Law) and trainer (IEJ, ENM and law firms).
She has a double doctorate (Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and Buenos Aires Universities) – on Les actions collectives en droit français et argentin à la lumière du droit comparé, published by Dalloz in 2013 -. Maria José is also the author of more than a hundred contributions in French, English and Spanish and one of the main authors of the study made in 2018 for the European Parliament – State of play of Collective redress in Europe – (with a team of Trans Europe Experts). For her work, she has been heard in the Senate and the Assembly as well as in the European Parliament.
Maria José founded the Observatoire des actions de groupe et autres actions collectives, in 2017 at the closing of the Fourth Academy of IDEP, based on the observation of the globalisation of collective actions, the multidisciplinary nature of the research and the absence of a register that records group actions in France.
A member of the Paris Bar, she is an independent consultant in the field of Mass Dispute Management (both as plaintiff and defendant). She is also a member of the Board of Directors and Vice-President of two European non-governmental organisations that pursue access to justice on a collective scale. Previously, Maria José was a lawyer at the Buenos Aires Bar Association, where she joined an international business law firm and headed a registered consumer association where she initiated numerous class actions and reached out-of-court settlements on behalf of consumer groups.
